if you only had one skill for your whole life, what would you pick?

i think it would be nice to be a specialist in something. everyone has to multi-task like mad these days and we don't get to depend on other people anymore.

rather than look at it like you're limiting yourself or being too one dimensional, i think sport athletes and super heroes get more done when they each play their role perfectly.

i guess the point of this is that too many people stretch themselves too thin by trying to be everything. proof: vick, mcnabb, cunningham, and steve grogan. all QBs who could run and throw. and none of them have championships.

it's nice to have flaws. and it's less lonely to have someone pick you up on where you suck.

things josh of now could have told josh of five years ago

lots of things.
i don't know if i'd ever listen.

on a side note, i don't know why people are fascinated by lists.. it's like we feel accomplished by taking small bites of everything.

snowball effect
point of no return
you were in it before you knew it
never go with the flow out of convenience
there's always novelty you have to get over
it's like chess
you'll eventually be compatible with tons of people.

7/15/08 restarts another quick fix

i have a bad habit of playing sport video games and running up the score against my opponents. i think i may have mentioned this in a previous post but i have no interest in competition or drama. i just like scoring as much as i can. i'm sure there's some sort of insecurity in me that is neutralized by being totally dominant. so if you're a therapist, please help me.

here reads my latest ncaa football 08 game.
emerald bowl stadium. 5 min quarters. varisty level.

West Virginia University - 128
Rice (please do not be offended if you're an owl) - 34
1st quarter - 38-13
2nd quarter - 46 - 7
3rd quarter - 8 - 0 (i think Rice used up all the time with their running game. this ruined my pacing)
4th quarter - 36 - 14

player stats
QB #5 - 15/19 549 YDS, 9 TDS, 1 INT, Long: 71 YDS, QB RATING: 467.4
QB #16 (my starting qb got drilled on a play and ended up sitting out in the second quarter) - 7/10 236 YDS, 5 TDS, 0 INT, Long: 60 YDS, QB RATING: 433.2
WR #83 - 10 REC, 425 YDS, 8 TDS
WR #21 - 8 REC, 277 YDS, 3 TDS

team stats
total offense: 827 yds (wvu) vs. 488 yds (rice)
comp - att - td: 22-29-14 (wvu) vs. 23-37-5 (rice)
passing yards: 785 (wvu) vs. 435 (rice)
rushes - yards - td: 6-42-1 (wvu) vs. 23-53-0 (rice)
3rd down conv: 2-3 (wvu) vs. 1-9 (rice)
2 point conv: 13-17 (wvu) vs. 0-1 (rice)
intercepted: 1 (wvu) vs. 5 (rice)
time of possession: 7:44 (wvu) vs. 12:20 (rice)

what's interesting to note is that their kick returner went for 414 yards off of 17 returns, 46% of Rice's total yards.

since i didn't win by a 100, i lose on my standards. my next goal is to try to pass for 1,000 yards. that's what i call ambition haha.

another one.

two weeks later, some of us decided to run the fourth of july sauvie island flat half marathon. why? because we're masochistic. and competitive. and that combination could one day spell disaster.

despite being a faster and flatter run, it was kind of grueling towards the end. this run had little variety (lots of same ol farmland) and i felt like i was on a treadmill. i don't think i've ever focused so hard on finishing anything. none the less, we all finished, i crushed my old time, and had strawberry shortcake and hot dogs at the finish line. the rush feels good. new life is always good.

here was my playlist on random. it wasn't as fitting as last time. i even put it on pause towards the end because the music was kind of getting annoying. haha. my ipod failed in finding music to help me focus.

brand new - the quiet things that no one ever knows (great start song).
radiohead - videotape
honorary title - untouched and intact
wolftron - uglybird
brand new - sic transit gloria...glory fades
ratatat - el pico
album leaf - streamside
honorary title - thin layer
the books - that right ain't shit
matt natahnson - suspended (live)
matt pond pa - measure 3
daft punk - da funk / daftendirekt (live)
sigur ros - godan daginn
brand new - i will play my game beneath the spinning light
matt nathanson - supsended
glen hansard - say it to me now
relient k - for the moments i feel faint
augustana - twenty years
rick springfield - jessie's girl
sigur ros - festival
ratatat - seventeen years
matt natahson - come on get higher
daft punk - touch it /technologic (live)
the books - classy penguin
third eye blind - wounded
minus the bear - absinthe party at the fly honey warehouse

and then we stayed up for a total of 22 hours straight.

lunch with friends. blues festival at the waterfront. fireworks. matador after party. i felt like i walked more than i ran. one of the best fourth of july's ever.

beaumont, texas

if you help a friend move out of their place.. you get to keep all the last minute stuff they need to annoyingly get rid of. like four lamps, a ton of plates, and mini cookie jars.
